Precious metals intelligence

Top Gold-Producing Countries

Global gold production is broadly distributed. The top ten producers cover roughly two-thirds of mined output but with very different jurisdictional risk profiles.

Largest producers

China, Australia, and Russia consistently lead. The US, Canada, Ghana, Mexico, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, and South Africa round out the top ten depending on year.

Trend direction

South African production has fallen sharply over decades as grades decline. Chinese and Russian output has held up better. African producers (Ghana, Mali, Burkina Faso) have grown share.

Jurisdiction risk

Permitting, royalty regimes, expropriation, currency convertibility, and security each vary by country. Mining-equity exposure inherits this risk; physical gold ownership generally does not.
