PAX Gold vs Physical Gold

PAXG offers fractional ownership of London vault gold via an ERC-20 token. The convenience is real; so are the tradeoffs.

What you actually own

Each PAXG token represents one fine troy ounce of London Good Delivery gold custodied by Brink’s for Paxos Trust. Audit reports publish monthly.

Costs

PAXG fees include a small on-chain transfer fee and creation/redemption fees. Total carry can be lower than ETF expense ratios for buy-and-hold, but trading fees stack up for active use.

Risks

Token holders accept Paxos counterparty risk, custodian risk, and smart-contract risk on top of gold price risk. Physical bullion has none of those but adds storage and verification burden.
